Charity cuts support services

Funding cuts are definitely uppermost in the minds of many charities at the moment with many seeing funding agreements ending during the next few months. This period is likely to be one of the most challenging times for many years for charities and third sector organisations, and some will undoubtedly fail.

To help, Baker Tilly have designed an on-going programme of briefings. Guidance and support materials will be available shortly to assist organisations respond in the best way possible for their beneficiaries.

We have already assisted scores of charities facing funding challenges or contemplating winding up by identifying alternative funding, exploiting their resources better, measuring their social impact, or finding collaborative solutions. As the environment changes and we identify other successful ways of protecting valuable charitable work we will share our experiences with you.

Charity cuts support service seminar series

Our autumn seminar series follows the launch earlier this year of our Charity Cuts Support Service and is designed to address these concerns. The seminars provide practical guidance for finance directors, senior executives and trustees and cover:

  • What the Comprehensive Spending Review means for the charity sector
  • How to respond if you are facing financial difficulties
  • Using Social Impact measurement to protect your funding
  • VAT changes to encourage charity collaboration and planning for the rate change
  • New rules to get the best out of gift aid and meeting the “fit and proper” test
  • Helping trustees fulfil their going concern responsibilities
  • An update on Charity Commission, OSCR and best practice guidance on risk, reserves and internal controls

Get your organisation into shape with our six 'get fit' Fs
Are you ready for 2011?  What is in store for the Third Sector for the next 12 months and is your organisation in shape to succeed?

Intellectual property rights and asset value
So many organisations in the Third and Public Sectors are considering restructuring, closure, or amalgamation.  Some forced by changes in funding, others by increasing beneficiary need: whatever the reason, they need to consider how to use limited resources to deliver the most value for beneficiaries.

Evaluating outcomes and focussing resources
As austerity budgeting becomes the order of the day, both at political level in the Big Society and other programmes, and as a response to our increasingly measurement-focussed society, outcomes evaluation is taking big strides forward.  This, in certain of its guises, can become a key part of the response to ‘how do we know what to do and what to drop?’
