Surviving Winter campaign

Recycling your Winter Fuel Payment via charities supporting the Surviving Winter Campaign in order to help the elderly at risk through fuel poverty is in keeping with our country’s long history of charitable giving to support those less fortunate than ourselves.

Baker Tilly are working with local Community Foundations all over the UK who collect donated payments which go directly to help those in our local community who struggle to stay safe through the winter.

There is, though, a way of making your Winter Fuel Payment (and whatever else you can give) work even harder. Gift aid is probably the most generous tax relief for money gifts to charities anywhere in the world.

As a UK tax payer if you complete a simple declaration the charity can reclaim basic rate income tax on your donation, currently 25% of the amount donated. In addition you will receive higher rate tax relief on your donation. With the top rate of income tax now being 50% this can substantially reduce the cost of your gift or, indeed, allow you to give a little extra for the same cost.
